Alameda County announces 10th Leadership Academy Alameda County has begun accepting applications for its 10th Leadership Academy. This free, six-session interactive forum is for people who live, work or own a business in Alameda County. Through presentations from county leaders and small group exercises, the Leadership Academy provides an opportunity for community members to increase their knowledge of local government. Participants learn about the wide range of services provided by Alameda County, the mission and strategic visioning initiative and the budget development process. Participants are able to practice leadership and communication skills such as public speaking, and participate in mock budget and other public policy exercises while acquiring knowledge on how to increase their civic involvement and networking with other community members. The academy begins Oct. 6 and continues through March 2, 2011. Sessions will be held the first Wednesday of each month from 6 to 9 p.m. at facilities throughout the county on the following dates: Oct. 6, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1, and Jan. 5, Feb. 2 and March 2, 2011. To graduate from the academy, participants are required to attend at least five of the six sessions. Space is limited. Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis and will represent the county’s various geographic areas. For more information or to obtain an application, visit www.acgov.org/adultleadership or call the county administrator’s office at (510) 272-6510. The application deadline is Aug. 27.
