Briscoe named director of Alameda County Health Care Services Agency The Alameda County Board of Supervisors recently announced its unanimous appointment of Alex Briscoe as director of the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency. Briscoe was appointed acting director in June 2009 while the board conducted a national search for the permanent replacement for David Kears, who retired as director of HCSA after 35 years of service. Briscoe joined HCSA in 2006 as the children’s services director and was promoted to deputy director in 2007 to lead the design and development of countywide health services. His most recent projects include clinical service design in foster care and juvenile justice settings as well as the integration of behavioral health practices in primary and specialty care settings. Prior to joining Alameda County, Briscoe served as a program director and clinician in the adolescent medicine division of Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland. “Alex will lead the HCSA with passion and a strong commitment to provide services to our residents. This is both a challenging and exciting time as we look to changes in our health care system,” said Alameda County Board of Supervisors President Alice Lai-Bitker. Susan Muranishi, county administrator, said, “We look forward to building on Alex’s experience with innovative and collaborative partnerships that leverage additional funding as the county faces its most challenging budget years ever.” Briscoe said, “I appreciate the wide range of support that I have received. I am fully committed to continue to work collaboratively with the community and county staff to serve our residents and address the significant challenges facing the Health Care Services Agency.” Briscoe has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Vassar College and master’s degree in counseling/psychology from the University of San Francisco.
