LORI JONES APPOINTED AS ALAMEDA COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES AGENCY DIRECTOR

Today, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors announced its unanimous appointment of Lori Jones as Director of the Alameda County Social Services Agency (SSA), effective July 3, 2011.  Ms. Jones was appointed Interim SSA Co-Director in January 2011 while the Board conducted a national search for the permanent replacement for Yolanda Baldovinos, who retired as Director of SSA after 28 years of distinguished County service.  Board members and the County Administrator also expressed their sincere appreciation to Dan Kaplan for his leadership as Interim SSA Co-Director and their reliance on his financial expertise and guidance.

In 1995, Ms. Jones joined Alameda County Social Services Agency as a Child Welfare Worker II, promoted to Child Welfare Supervisor in early 1998 and Program Manager in late 1998.  Ms. Jones left County service in 2000 to become Deputy Director of the John H. Boner Community Center in Indianapolis.  In 2001, she returned to Alameda County working as a consultant for SSA.  In 2002, Ms. Jones was hired as a Program Manager and promoted to SSA Division Director in March 2004.

Board President Nate Miley stated that “Lori will lead the Social Services Agency with a strong commitment to provide services to our residents.  This is both a challenging and exciting time as we look to transformative changes in our social services system.”

Ms. Jones stated that “being selected to lead Alameda County Social Services Agency during these challenging times is an exciting opportunity.  I look forward to strengthening our current partnerships, creating new collaborations and working with staff to develop services that meet the growing needs of our community.”

Susan S. Muranishi, County Administrator said, “We look forward to building on Lori’s track record of innovation and collaborative partnerships to leverage additional funding and enhance services to our diverse communities as the County faces its most challenging budget years ever.”

Jones has a BA degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and a MS degree in Counseling Psychology from the California State University, Hayward.
